Sorry for the long gap between this latest blog and my previous one. Gerard has been away for almost a month travelling through Australia and New Zealand whilst studying for a Master of Science in Wine and I was left “holding the baby” and was busy juggling school runs, dog walking, hotel life, weddings, Mothering Sunday service and just general day to day dramas of life that makes the Basset household so frenetic and chaotic… I sometimes think that if there are two straws to be drawn, I seem to get the shorter one… Gerard is flying all around the world, tasting wine, enjoying the hospitality of some of the nicest people on earth, (wine makers), basking in warm sunshine and I am in wet and windy England, with a damp dog, sleepovers to manage and hotel boilers to repair!
Gerard arrived home on Monday of this week looking tanned, relaxed and surprisingly well considering he had been flying for 35 hours if you count the 6 or 7 hours of stopovers in lovely places such as Sydney and Singapore! I arrived at Heathrow to collect him at 5am in the morning looking harassed, exhausted and bad tempered having got up at 3 am to get there on time…guests love to hear of Gerard’s travelling adventures and often ask me why I don’t get to go with him… why indeed! As much as the idea appeals to me it’s just not feasible or possible, so I will just have to get on with multi tasking and hope the Spring brings some welcome sunshine!
Now Gerard is home and as always happens when he has been away for a time, it takes a few days to get used to each other again and for me to adapt to the fact that I have to share the house again with someone who (bless him) covers the dining table with books, causes me to have many more loads of washing and lots more dry cleaning to take and collect, share the dogs affection and cuddles when usually they are all for me and tells me off for staying up too late working or catching up on my favourite TV dramas on my I-pad in the middle of the night, BUT, there are some bonuses to having him home, apart from the fact that I miss him very much when he is away, and that is he brings me tea in bed each morning, he also opens very nice bottles of wine to have with dinner… so all in all the pros outweigh the cons of having him home and I hope he doesn’t depart again too soon…. Although I do get to have all the bed, the TV remote all for me, the best chocolates in the box with no one to share them and freedom to dance around the kitchen, singing badly with no one laughing at me… so roll on Chile and his next trip!
In the meantime, talking of trips away… if you fancy a quick jaunt to the New Forest and a stay away with us, then here are some TerraVina Temptations to tempt you soon!
